Tristan Boyer earned his first win at the US Open after beating James Duckworth in straight sets. The American recovered from 3-0 down in the second to win 6-3 7-5 6-4 after two hours and two minutes. Boyer benefitted from an error strewn display by Duckworth, who committed over 20 more unforced errors, but it was still a fine performance from the world number 113.
Andrey Rublev got off to a strong start in New York as he beat Dino Prizmic without dropping his serve. The young Croatian still performed well and tested the four-time quarter-finalist at times, but Rublev controlled the match to win 6-4 6-4 6-4. He won 88% of his points on first serve.
The Russian has struggled at times this season but has found form at the right time, coming into this on the back of successive quarter-final finishes in Toronto and Cincinnati. He’s in a confident mood and has the weapons to defeat Boyer in straight sets.
