Tristan Boyer qualified for the event after beating James Kent Trotter 7-6 6-3. Before that victory, he was without a win in his last six matches. The American is ranked 123 in the world but is yet to get past the second-round of any tournament he’s competed in this season, including on the Challenger Tour.

He will go up against fellow American Aleksander Kovacevic. He had struggled to make an impact for months during the clay and grass court seasons, but his fortunes have improved since he transitioned back to hard courts for the North American summer swing. He made his second final of the season, beating Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals once again, in Los Cabos. Kovacevic then competed in Washington and lost in the second-round, though he did push Frances Tiafoe all the way in their three set encounter.

Kovacevic enjoys these conditions and is performing better than he has been for much of this year. He will be good value to come through this in straight sets.
