Trevor Svajda has only competed in one event so far this season. He won his first-round match at the San Diego Challenger against Micah Braswell in straight sets but would then lose to Liam Draxl. The teenager is ranked outside of the top 350. Svajda won two titles on the ITF circuit last year, while he also reached a Challenger final in Salem.

He takes on Ethan Quinn. The American picked up his first two hard court wins at a major as he advanced to the third-round of the Australian Open. He took Jakub Mensik to two tiebreaks but would ultimately lose in straight sets. The 21-year-old then competed in Davis Cup qualifying for the United States, defeating Fabian Marozsan of Hungary in a three set epic, as he saved four match points.

They faced each other in the same round of the tournament last year, with Quinn recording a straight sets victory. He has improved as a player since then and should be expected to come through with a similar result again.
