Tomas Martin Etcheverry battled his way past Mark Lajal to make it through to the next stage of the Stockholm Open. The Argentine slumped to a 3-0 deficit in the first set but managed to come back and take it on a tiebreak. However, Lajal then began to really find his footing in the match as he squared the match up and went 3-0 up once more in the decider. Etcheverry showed all his fighting qualities to wrestle back control and win the remaining six games to seal a 7-6 6-7 6-3 win after two hours and 55 minutes.
Miomir Kecmanovic’s first-round match was more straight-forward as he defeated Alexandre Muller in straight sets. The first set saw four consecutive breaks of serve but the Serb still opened up an advantage, while he dominated the second to win 6-4 6-1.
The head-to-head is 1-1. They last met at an indoor event, with Etcheverry coming from a set down to beat Kecmanovic in the first-round of the 2023 Paris Masters. These conditions should still suit the Serb’s aggressive baseline play and he has enough quality to get past Etcheverry.
