Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Francisco Cerundolo prediction

Tomas Martin Etchevery continued his slight resurgence as he registered another win in Toronto with an impressive victory over Tallon Griekspoor. The Argentine served for the match at 5-4 in the second set but the Dutchman broke back, only for Etcheverry to regroup well and seal victory in the tiebreak. Etcheverry won 6-4 7-6 after an hour and 59 minutes. He was on a six match losing run and had split up with his coach prior to this tournament, but these two successive wins are a step in the right direction.

He now faces Francisco Cerundolo in round three. The Argentine defeated Jaume Munar in a close three encounter. Munar went 3-1 up in the decider and earned 13 break point opportunities overall compared to Cerundolo’s six, but the Argentine was far more potent when it came to taking his chances and fought back strongly to win 7-6 4-6 6-4.

Etcheverry leads the ATP head-to-head 2-1 and 1-0 on clay. Their only match on the surface was a five set thriller at the US Open last year, but Cerundolo did win their most recent contest earlier this year in the quarter-finals of the Chile Open. Their three matches have all gone the distance and there's a decent chance it happens again.
