Tomas Machac vs Flavio Cobolli prediction
Tomas Machac was forced to retire from his third-round match against Valentin Vacherot in the Shanghai Masters. Vacherot would go on to win the tournament. The Czech has retired from a number of matches this season and his injury struggles have been a constant feature of the campaign, though he still has picked up a title in Acapulco, reached the quarters in Dallas and made the round-of-16 at the US and Miami Opens.
He will take on Flavio Cobolli in the first-round. The Italian was handed a bye in the first-round of the Almaty Open and then defeated Rinky Hijikata to make the quarter-finals. However, he was soundly beaten by James Duckworth in the last eight which made it five defeats from his last seven matches. Cobolli broke new ground with the first two titles of his career this season along with a quarter-final finish at Wimbledon, but the campaign does seem to have caught up with the Italian.
Machac leads the head-to-head 1-0, having thrashed Cobolli right at the start of the year in the United Cup. He’s only just coming back from an injury, while his opponent is not in the best of form. There’s a decent chance that this heads into a deciding set, with neither player a firm favourite.
Tomas Machac vs Flavio Cobolli tip: Both players to win a set
