Thiago Agustin Tirante reached the round of 16 at the Montreal Open earlier this month, beaten by Learner Tien. His year has been a strong one, particularly on clay, as he seeks a strong hard court season in the late summer and into the autumn.
Jan Choinski heads into Cincinnati in fine form, having won the Bonn Challenger event earlier this month without dropping a set in his five matches. Choinski was backing up a tournament victory at the Braunschweig Challenger event in July – making it three for the year after also winning in Zagreb in May.
Choinski has enjoyed a very positive few months but mainly on clay and grass, while Tirante prefers clay, the Argentine still has to be viewed as the favourite here.
