Thiago Agustin Tirante is searching for a win after four straight defeats. The 25-year-old’s last victory was at the Cincinnati Open back in August, as he advanced to the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 event for the first time. He did rise to a career high of 42 in the world, but it has already dropped down to 54 after a period of poor form. His best result of the season was a semi-final appearance in Houston.

He faces Hamad Medjedovic in the first-round. The Serb ended a losing streak of five matches at the Davis Cup last time out, beating Vilius Gaubas. Medjedovic suffered early exits at Queen’s Club, Wimbledon, Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open, with his ranking falling to outside the world’s top 80. His best period of form was during the clay court season, highlighted by his impressive run to the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open.

Both of these players possess plenty of power from the back of the court, but neither heads into this encounter in particularly convincing form, making this a difficult match to call.
