Thanasi Kokkinkais picked up his first singles win on tour in a year as he defeated last year’s finalist Sebastian Korda in the first-round. The Australian lost the first set but raced into a 4-0 lead in the second, levelling the match up. A nervy decider saw no breaks of serve, with Kokkinakis holding his nerve to win 3-6 6-3 7-6 (3).
He takes on Valentin Vacherot in the next round. The Monegasque, who shocked the tennis world with his win at the Shanghai Masters last year as a qualifier, earned his first win of 2026 after a straight sets win over Miomir Kecmanovic in the first-round. Vacherot was broken in his first service game but then won five games in a row as he began to dominate, winning 7-6 (5) 6-4 in the end.
Kokkinakis showed a lot of fight in his first-round match, but Vacherot will be another huge challenge he has to contend with.
