Thanasi Kokkinakis opted to play in Dublin in the build-up to Wimbledon, but he lost in the first-round to Jerome Kym. The Australian has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and he was forced to retire from his second-round match against Pablo Carreno Busta at Roland Garros last month. He made his debut at Wimbledon in 2015, but this will be only his fifth main draw appearance at the event.
Alexander Bublik is his first-round opponent. The Kazakhstani was the defending champion heading into the Halle Open, but he suffered a surprising defeat to Mattia Bellucci in his opening round match. He did reach the semi-finals in Stuttgart a week earlier, losing to Taylor Fritz. Bublik will be hoping for a deep run at SW19, having lost in the first-round to Jaume Munar last year. His best Wimbledon result in the past was a round-of-16 appearance in 2023.
Kokkinakis’ fitness is always a concern in a best of five set match, but his serve is good enough to keep him competitive. However, Bublik is still the player to beat overall.
