Terence Atmane mainly competes on the Challenger Tour, with the Frenchman being awarded a wildcard for the French Open. He ended April with a title at the Busan Open in South Korea on hard court and followed that up with another win in Guangzhou. He finally made the transition to clay in Bordeaux last week, reaching the quarter-finals before a very close three set defeat to Tallon Griekspoor.
Richard Gasquet announced his intention to retire after this year’s French Open and will hope his match against Atmane is not his last. He has not featured in a month after losing in the second-round of Monte Carlo to Daniel Altmaier. The 38-year-old played his first ATP match in April 2002 and reached a highest ranking of seventh in July 2007.
Gasquet will get tremendous support from the home crowd, but Atmane is likely to outlast his opponent and make it through.
