THE PREDICTION
World number 44 Yulia Putintseva reached the semi-finals of the Istanbul Open last week before a three-set defeat to eventual champion Anastasia Potapova. The 27-year-old is at her best on the clay, with both of her WTA titles won on the surface at the 2019 Nurnburg Open and last season’s Budapest Open. World number 48 Shelby Rogers is a world-beater on her day and an excellent all-courter but she has reached two tour finals on clay and is probably most comfortable on this surface. The American lost from a set up to in-form Kaia Kanepi at the Charleston Open earlier this month but she has beaten the likes of Jelena Ostapenko and Maria Sakkari this season with her peaks and troughs some of the more extreme on tour. Putintseva has the better recent clay form but it is hard to see Rogers failing to win a set here. This match looks something of a coupon buster but backing the American to take at least a set seems reasonable.
