Defending champion Yulia Putintseva got her Hungarian Grand Prix campaign underway well with a straight-sets victory over Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova on Tuesday. The world number 32 looks set for another deep run in Budapest this season, especially with top seed Barbora Krejcikova already dropping out of the mix, and this should be a relatively straightforward first meeting with Laura Pigossi. The world number 125 took out Rebecca Peterson in straight sets after coming through as a lucky loser to face the Swede but she should not be underestimated at this level after finishing runner-up to Tatjana Maria at the Bogota Open on clay back in April. Putintseva should have enough to come through comfortably here but lucky losers are always something of an outlier in the draw and you could be forgiven for cautiously taking the Kazakh to win outright instead of straight sets.
