31-year-old Alison Riske lost from a set up to Magda Linette in the first round of the Eastbourne International, making it a now three-match losing streak since her defeat to Beatriz Haddad-Maia in the Nottingham Open final. The American won the second of her three WTA titles at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2019 on grass and took that form into a memorable Wimbledon campaign where she beat then world number one Ash Barty before defeat to Serena Williams in the quarter-finals. 23-year-old Ylena In-Albon set a new career high WTA world ranking of 110th this week after some strong results on the ITF circuit but the Swiss has drawn one of the shorter straws on her Grand Slam debut. Riske is a consummate professional who rarely suffers big upsets and on her favoured surface the American can be backed to win in straight sets.
