THE PREDICTION

World number 63 Adrian Mannarino is yet to drop a set this week in Dallas, beating both Steve Johnson and Jordan Thompson with both matches featuring a tiebreak. The 34-year-old won his second ATP title at the Winston-Salem Open last August and a four-set victory over John Isner in the first round of the Australian Open last time out suggests the Frenchman is in combative form here. This should be a totally different test, though, against story of the week Yibing Wu, who stunned Denis Shapovalov in straight sets on Thursday in a career-best result. The 23-year-old should become the first Chinese male tennis player to break the top 90 no matter the outcome here but it would not be a surprise to see Mannarino crumble under the force of the youngster’s momentum. A first meeting between the two leaves more questions than answers but consider taking Wu to earn at least a set and add a tiebreak for good measure, with three played amongst their respective matches this week.
