Former world number 12 Yanina Wickmayer enjoyed her first Grand Slam outing since the 2020 US Open with a straight-sets victory over Lin Zhu. The 32-year-old reached the round of 16 here in 2011, two years after setting her best Grand Slam showing with a run to the semi-finals of the US Open. World number 17 Jelena Ostapenko is the 12th seed here after losing to Petra Kvitova in the Eastbourne International final as defending champion last week. The 25-year-old famously won Roland-Garros in 2017 and after a few season’s in the wilderness she looks to be steadily making her return to the top 10. Ostapenko is the last player to have beaten world number one Iga Swiatek on her way to the Dubai Tennis Championships title back in February and the Latvian should have too much power for Wickmayer here. Back Ostapenko to win outright, although straight sets could be worth the risk after she beat Oceane Dodin in two on Tuesday.
