The Chinese prospect ousted an out-of-sorts top seed in Barbora Krejcikova on Wednesday and then doubled down with a huge performance over Ana Bogdan, taking out the Romanian via two tiebreaks including a 12-10 second set winner. World number 105 Aleksandra Krunic will also move back inside the top 100 after blasting past one of the pre-tournament favourites in Shuai Zhang on Thursday, conceding just one set to the 33-year-old. Both players have impressed in Budapest so far but this first meeting is about experience, with 29-year-old Krunic a former top 40 player, and Xiyu Wang’s youthful momentum. The latter has more often than not won out in recent times and that makes backing the Chinese youngster to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors look the sensible call.
