World number 103 Viktorija Golubic is a player far better than her current ranking but she has admittedly struggled to reach the heights of her best season on tour, last year, in which she reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon and won a Gold Medal alongside Belinda Bencic at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The 29-year-old needed three sets to overcome Arianne Hartono on Wednesday and that does not scream confidence ahead of this round of 16 clash with Kristina Mladenovic, who fought back bravely to beat Anna Bondar from a set down 10-8 in the deciding tiebreak. 29-year-old Mladenovic spends most of her time on the doubles circuit these days but the former world number 10 still has plenty to offer on her own. Golubic has failed to win back-to-back matches in each of her last three tournaments since crashing out of the Nottingham semi-finals and the shrewd move here could well be backing Mladenovic to take at least a set.
