World number 15 Madison Keys came back from a set down to beat Ajla Tomljanovic on Wednesday to set a pretty big statement ahead of this blockbuster with former world number one Victoria Azarenka. 32-year-old Azarenka is yet to drop a set this week in Guadalajara after Paula Badosa retired a set down in their second round match on Wednesday and she has excellent pedigree in these conditions as the owner of eight Masters titles won on North American soil amongst her 21 career titles. This is a really tough call considering Madison Keys has never taken a set from the Belarussian, with last season’s defeat at Roland-Garros seeing Azarenka take a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head, but the American is the more dependable performer right now. Perhaps the best option here is taking Keys to earn her first set from Azarenka and leaving a potential thriller up to chance.
