25-year-old Veronika Kudermetova will break her career-high WTA world ranking of 23rd with one more win at Roland-Garros after reaching the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time. The current world number 29 came back from a set down to Madison Keys on Monday, backing up an excellent performance against Paula Badosa in the third round. Kudermetova has finished runner-up three times this season: to Simona Halep at Melbourne 1, Jelena Ostapenko at the Dubai Tennis Championships and to Anastasia Potapova at the Istanbul Open on clay.
DARIA KASATKINA
World number 20 Daria Kasatkina blew Camila Giorgi away on Monday to maintain a seriously impressive, spotless record at Roland-Garros. The 25-year-old has conceded fewer games than world number one Iga Swiatek so far in a similar fashion to her run at the Italian Open two weeks ago, where she lost in three to eventual runner-up Ons Jabeur. Kasatkina set a career-high WTA world ranking of 10th back in 2018 where she reached back-to-back quarter-finals here and at Wimbledon.

There will be few secrets between Billie Jean King Cup champions Veronika Kudermetova and Daria Kasatkina as the Russian pair will have grown up alongside each other’s games at 25 years old. Kasatkina came back from a set down to beat Kudermetova in the quarter-finals of the St. Petersburg Open just over a year ago in their first meeting on tour and more of the same can be expected here.
