THE PREDICTION

World number 12 Tommy Paul is still in contention for a debut at the ATP Finals next month but it would take the week of his career to do so, particularly with so many players ahead of him to out-perform. The 26-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, taking a set from eventual champion Novak Djokovic before defeat to change the course of his career, and he has enjoyed a largely consistent season since despite failing to add to his one ATP title. World number 68 Richard Gasquet did just that in Auckland way back in January, upsetting Cam Norrie in three sets to claim the 16th ATP title of his long career, but the 37-year-old has won just 10 matches since to bring a 14-23 record into Paris-Bercy. Gasquet will receive a huge partisan backing here in what is likely to be his last outing at the Paris Masters but this is a very tough clash against Paul who, despite some avoidable losses this season, is very rarely knocked out in the first round. Back Paul to edge through.

BETTING TIP: Tommy Paul to win.
