World number 50 Benjamin Bonzi played well to overcome the returning Kyle Edmund in straight sets on Tuesday. The 26-year-old has enjoyed his best season on tour to date and he looks in good shape despite losing his last two matches, both in tight three-setters against top opponents in Frances Tiafoe and John Isner in Montreal and Cincinnati. World number 67 Thiago Monteiro is a tough customer, though, who is yet to drop a set this week after ousting Denis Kudla and Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Brazilian recently set a career-high ATP world ranking of 62nd after winning a Challenger event last month and he is well capable of forcing a decider in his current mood. Bonzi can be backed to win this outright but perhaps taking the Frenchman to win at least a set and for at least one tiebreak in the match between two battle-hardened Challenger circuit-ers would be more valuable.
