World number 13 Taylor Fritz and number 42 Sebastian Korda are playing together in the Men’s Doubles this week at the Monte-Carlo Open but before they join forces in the round of 16 on Thursday they will face each other for the first time on tour. 21-year-old Korda provided the shock of the tournament so far when he beat man of the moment Carlos Alcaraz in three sets on Wednesday to snap the Spaniard’s impressive run of wins. Korda won his first ATP title on clay last summer at the Emilia-Romagna Open and of the two here he is probably the better player in these conditions. That is to take nothing away from 24-year-old Fritz, however, after the American number one overcame Marin Cilic in three sets on Thursday. Fritz recently claimed a first Masters title at Indian Wells, against Rafael Nadal no less, but Korda’s victory over the form player on tour cannot be ignored. Back the younger American to win at least a set here as the likelier of two very capable winners.
