World number 16 Matteo Berrettini made short work of avenging his shock loss to Roberto Carballes Baena in Florence last week with a comfortable win in Naples on Thursday. The second seed will be well backed as the home favourite at the Napoli Cup and he should have little trouble making the weekend in this quarter-final clash with Taro Daniel, despite the Japanese’s excellent week so far. World number 95 Daniel can be far better than his current ranking suggests and he proved that by ousting in-form Pedro Cachin on Thursday to reach the last eight without dropping a set. Berrettini leads Daniel 2-1 in their head-to-head record but a first hardcourt encounter will favour the Italian, as will the partisan crowd. Back Berrettini to win in straight sets.
