World number eight Andrey Rublev had to come back from a set down to beat impressive Czech youngster Jiri Lehecka on Thursday and he has struggled to find his trademark intensity since losing to eventual Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals this time last month. There is more than a scent of an upset about this match with world number 104 Taro Daniel, with the 29-year-old overcoming two excellent clay-courters in Dusan Lajovic and Holger Rune, both in three sets. The Japanese won his only ATP title on clay at the Istanbul Open in 2018 and he has found some of the best form of his career this year seemingly from nowhere. Rublev remains the favourite to win but it took three sets to beat Daniel in their only previous meeting back in 2019 at the Miami Open and it could well do so again. That makes taking Rublev to win outright the sensible pick here, to win at least a set the wise component of an accumulator, and Daniel to win at least one the valuable risk.
