Former world number three Stan Wawrinka will play his first tour-level match for over a year after undergoing surgery on his left foot. The 37-year-old veteran is a three-time Grand Slam champion from the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 Roland-Garros and 2016 US Open and he also won his solitary Masters title here in 2014 amongst his total of 16 career titles. Wawrinka’s return will be a celebrated occasion when he takes to the court but he has drawn a tough opener in world number 37 Alexander Bublik, who plays without fear or, seemingly, reason or judgment. The 24-year-old with two first serves and no Plan B won his first ATP title at the Montpellier Open back in February but he has since struggled to impose himself over five tournaments. Bublik should be winning this first encounter with Wawrinka in straight sets but the great Swiss deserves caution here, so take Bublik to win outright.
