World number 27 Sorana Cirstea reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros as a teenager back in 2009, a year after winning her first WTA title at the Tashkent Open. The 32-year-old won her second title over a decade later at last season’s Istanbul Open and she defended that well last month until a semi-final exit to Veronika Kudermetova. Cirstea looks the fair favourite to come through this first meeting with world number 107 Tatjana Maria but the 34-year-old has been in fine form on clay this swing. The German won her second WTA title at the Bogota Open last month, although admittedly against a weakened field in Colombia. Cirstea has impressed at recent Grand Slams and backing the Romanian to win at least a set looks a suitably sensible concession.
