21-year-old wildcard Simona Waltert grabbed the biggest win of her young career by some margin on Tuesday, coming back from a set down to oust the top seed Danielle Collins. The Swiss has enjoyed some success on the ITF circuit this season but she will be hoping this is the springboard onto the main tour that comes around only a few times and this is a winnable draw against world number 126 Cristina Bucsa. The Spaniard qualified this week to reach the first round and she backed that up with a strong straight-sets victory over Kristina Mladenovic on Tuesday. It comes as no surprise that these players have never met on tour before but given Waltert’s incredible win over Collins, and the increased home support she will receive in Lausanne as a result, back her to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
