World number 21 Simona Halep was in some excellent form at the Madrid Open last week before coming unstuck against eventual champion Ons Jabeur in the quarter-finals. The former world number one is still one of the very top players on clay on tour as a former Roland-Garros champion and she is a former champion in Rome from 2020, one of six masters trophies amongst her career total of 23 WTA titles. World number nine Danielle Collins was stunned by the full force of a fit and firing Bianca Andreescu last week at the Madrid Open but the 28-year-old is an excellent competitor on clay, with her first WTA title won on the surface in Italy last season at the Palermo Open. Collins has been unfortunate to draw two unseeded Grand Slam champions in Andreescu and now Halep but she should fare better at incoming Roland-Garros as a former quarter-finalist. Back Halep to win this occasion on her favoured clay.
