SHUAI ZHANG VS PAULA BADOSA PREDICTION
35-year-old Shuai Zhang has enjoyed a superb week in Beijing and she will hope it does not end here as she now faces the in-form Paula Badosa.
Zhang has already beaten two seeds this week as she stunned Emma Navarro 6-4 6-2 in the second round and then Magdalena Frech by the exact same scoreline in the round of 16. The win over Navarro saw her become the lowest-ranked player to defeat a top 10 player since the China Open began in 2004 – such was the size of that feat.
Standing in her way of a place in the semi-finals is Paula Badosa who is enjoying a tremendous week herself. She has won all three matches so far in straight sets and the win over Jessica Pegula in the round of 16 by a stunning 6-4 6-0 scoreline was particularly impressive.
Badosa will not be underestimating Zhang as may have been the case by some other players this week. The Spaniard is playing some dominant tennis herself and while Zhang will certainly push her, Badosa is playing as a high enough level that she should simply have too much quality for the home favourite.
