THE PREDICTION
World number 41 Shuai Zhang has been in some excellent form this season with a third WTA title won at the Lyon Open back in February and some superb results on grass this month. The 33-year-old enjoyed a run to both the singles and doubles finals at last week’s Birmingham Classic before an unfortunate injury saw her miss out on both but she has been granted a small twist of fate at Wimbledon. Originally slated to face 17th seed Elena Rybakina, the Chinese star has been shifted over as the latest seed after Madison Keys pulled out of the tournament and that leaves a winnable opener against Misaki Doi. Shuai Zhang leads their tour-level head-to-head record 3-1, winning each of their last three meetings in straight sets, and backing her to make that four in a row here looks reasonable.
