World number 26 Shuai Zhang is in perhaps the form of her career, at least consistently, this season as she comes off an excellent run to the semi-finals of the Tokyo Open last week. The 33-year-old beat red-hot Caroline Garcia from a set down last week before coming unstuck against eventual champion Liudmila Samsonova but she started this week off solidly with a straight-sets victory over Viktoria Kuzmova. World number 85 Donna Vekic conceded just two games to Estonian wildcard Maileen Nuudi on Tuesday but the Croat has failed to win back-to-back matches on tour since reaching the quarter-finals of the Birmingham Classic back in June. Shuai Zhang looks a proper dark horse for the title this weekend and she can make it four wins in a row against Vekic here, probably in straight sets.
