THE PREDICTION

29-year-old Shelby Rogers has been in searing form this week at the Silicon Valley Classic, with three straight-set victories over top 10 players past, present and future in Bianca Andreescu, Maria Sakkari and Amanda Anisimova. The American will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 35th no matter the outcome of this semi-final but she will be desperate, and frankly deserving, of the chance to play for a maiden WTA title as one of the most talented on tour from the past decade without a trophy to show for it. 25-year-old Veronika Kudemetova is in the form of her career, though, and one more win will see her break her own career-high WTA world ranking currently at 18th. The Russian ousted recent Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur in straight sets on Friday in a real statement of intent and she has already reached three tour finals this season, albeit finishing runner-up in each.

The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record after Kudermetova won their meeting at the Miami Open in straight sets back in March and leaning towards the Russian seems sensible here based on that. Take Kudermetova to win at least a set to wisely leave the winner up to chance. Three sets could also be a viable option here.
