THE PREDICTION

World number 30 Sebastian Korda put in an assured performance to beat John Millman in straight sets, winning a tight third-set tiebreak well on Monday. The 21-year-old won his first ATP title almost a year ago on clay at the Emilia-Romagna Open and he has the groundstrokes and significant arm-span to excel on this surface in years to come. Former world number seven Richard Gasquet might have looked a comfortable draw a few weeks ago but the home favourite has found some superb recent form. 35-year-old Gasquet reached the semi-finals of the Lyon Open last week, beating a rusty Daniil Medvedev en-route, and he dismissed Lloyd Harris in three sets on Monday – and Tuesday after their match was rained off overnight. Korda is the clear favourite to come through this first meeting but Gasquet is a well-loved veteran here in Roland-Garros and the French players receive a clear boost at this tournament. Back Korda to win outright and consider adding Gasquet to win at least a set.
