THE LOWDOWN

SEBASTIAN KORDA

World number 30 Sebastian Korda was impressive in a straight-sets victory over fellow American Reilly Opelka on Tuesday in conditions that should have counted against him. The 21-year-old won his first ATP title last season on clay at the Emilia-Romagna Open and he recently stunned Carlos Alcaraz in three sets at the Monte-Carlo Open. Korda reached the semi-finals of the Estoril Open last week before losing from a set up to Frances Tiafoe.

LORENZO MUSETTI

World number 63 Lorenzo Musetti came back from a set down to beat Ilya Ivashka on Monday after a solid qualifying run over the weekend. The 20-year-old burst onto the scene at the 2020 Italian Open with a run to the round of 16, defeating Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori as world number 249. Musetti reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros last summer and took the first two sets against eventual champion before a capitulation saw him retire exhausted from the fifth.

THE PREDICTION

This looks set to be a well-contested rivalry over the next decade on tour, especially on clay, between Lorenzo Musetti and Sebastian Korda. The pair have played twice before, both last season, with Musetti winning in three sets on clay at the Lyon Open and Korda taking their round robin in straight sets at the Next Gen ATP Finals. Given recent results Korda looks the favourite to come through here but Musetti loves a big occasion. Considering Korda has won at least a set in both previous matches, that option looks the sensible move here.
