24-year-old Frances Tiafoe will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 27th after a stunning three-set victory over in-form clay specialist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Friday. The American is an excellent all-courter but taking out the Monte-Carlo Open runner-up from a break down in the third is vastly impressive fare and he looks dangerous here with a 2-0 head-to-head lead over fellow American Sebastian Korda. 21-year-old Korda is also on the rise up the rankings and he will set a new career-high of at least 30th after an excellent straight-sets victory over the Estoril Open top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. Korda is almost certainly the more comfortable player on clay, with his first ATP title coming in the surface at last season’s Emilia-Romagna Open, and taking him to earn at least a set here as the just-about likelier finalist seems the sensible move.
