THE PREDICTION

This could be a proper thriller on Friday between the Next Gen ATP Finalists from last season in 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz and 21-year-old Sebastian Korda. Alcaraz beat the American in straight sets in the Next Gen final last November but Korda levelled their head-to-head record at 1-1 with a stunning three-set upset at the Monte-Carlo Open last month, albeit against a slightly jaded version of the world-beating Spaniard coming off his first Masters win at the Miami Open.

World number six Alcaraz needed five sets to come back against the tireless Albert Ramos-Vinolas on Wednesday in a match that almost reached the five-hour mark but he should be the better for it with his level so far below-par at Roland-Garros. World number 30 Sebastian Korda is yet to drop a set in Paris with two assured wins over John Millman and Richard Gasquet, leaving him plenty in the tank to tackle Alcaraz. Backing both players to win at least a set could be the suitably cautious way out of picking a winner here but placing faith on future world number one Alcaraz to eventually find a way through would be a reasonable risk.
