World number 47 Sebastian Korda has taken out two top players in successive rounds this week at the Gijon Open, beating both Roberto Bautista Agut and Andy Murray to look the solid favourite to come through this first meeting with Arthur Rinderknech. However, world number 56 Rinderknech stunned the pre-tournament favourite and Gijon native Pablo Carreno Busta from a set down on Friday to prove his recent resurgence has legs. Three quarter-finals on the spin and now a semi-final suggests the Frenchman’s confidence has returned after a fairly torrid season and this is exactly the kind of ball Korda can, and has often, dropped after producing some excellent performances. Three sets seem about as likely as two here but Korda should be winning this match and comfortably at his currently unpredictable best.
