World number 47 Sebastian Baez claimed his maiden ATP title on clay last season at the Estoril Open but there was a pretty significant depreciation in his game on grass and especially hardcourts later in the year. The 22-year-old should be able to rediscover some of his impressive gusto over the next few months but he could probably have done without receiving a bye to the round of 16 here as the fourth seed in Cordoba as he seeks precious wins. 20-year-old Luciano Darderi will be flying high after claiming the first tour-level win of his career over Hugo Gaston on Tuesday and he is yet to drop a set this week after an impressive qualifying campaign. The upset would not be a huge surprise here but home advantage still heavily favours Baez. Perhaps taking Darderi to earn at least a set is the shrewd move here even if the Italian ends up defeated.
