THE PREDICTION
Former world number Dominic Thiem claimed his first win on tour in 14 months with a comeback over Emil Ruusuvuori on Tuesday and he backed that up with an impressive three-set display over the fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of 16. The Austrian is making a long overdue comeback from wrist surgery but at 28 years old he has plenty of time to regain his rightful place at the top of the sport as a US Open champion from 2020. However, 21-year-old Sebastian Baez is the real deal on clay and a straight-sets victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is an impressive result heading into a first meeting with one of the best on this surface this past decade. Baez should set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 32nd no matter the outcome here but the Argentine has form on his side after winning a first title at the Estoril Open back in May and he looks the slightest of favourites here.
Thiem remains an anomaly right now but if he can find 80% of his level he could still edge this. Take Baez to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
