World number 41 Sara Sorribes Tormo reached the semi-finals of the Palermo Ladies Open last month before a three-set defeat to eventual champion Irina-Camelia Begu. The 25-year-old also enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open on her favoured clay back in May but she is a dangerous opponent on all surfaces with a fierce, regular ball capable of frustrating anyone. 22-year-old Claire Liu is coming off a decent win over Beatriz Haddad-Maia at last week’s Silicon Valley Classic before a straight-sets loss to Veronika Kudermetova but the world number 81 has the potential for better too.
