23-year-old Liudmila Samsonova won her 10th-straight match on Saturday to make it back-to-back WTA titles at the Citi Open and Cleveland Championships, making her a solid dark horse for a deep run at the US Open. The Russian claimed her first WTA title at last season’s Berlin Open on grass with form that saw her reach the round of 16 soon after at Wimbledon and more of the same can be expected in New York after two excellent campaigns on hardcourts. 16-year-old Sara Bejlek will be one of the stories of the first round, though, after qualifying the hard way to make her WTA tour and Grand Slam debut at the US Open. The Czech will garner the majority of the support as a huge underdog here but Samsonova already has experience of transferring form from tournament to Slam and she should be able to win this in comfortable straight sets.
