THE PREDICTION

World number 19 Roberto Bautista Agut came back from a set down to beat Francisco Cerundolo on Monday for an impressive start to his Cincinnati Open campaign. The 34-year-old recently claimed the second title of his season at Kitzbuhel, making it 11 career ATP titles, but he is yet to really mark his card with a Masters title having come closest in 2016 when he finished runner-up to Andy Murray at the Shanghai Open. World number 54 Marcos Giron lost to the Spaniard in the first round of last week’s Canada Masters but he has set-up an immediate rematch here after a straight-sets victory over David Goffin. The 29-year-old usually finds his best tennis in this last third of the season and he will be well-backed by a home crowd as a significant underdog. A straight-sets victory over Giron less than a week ago suggests taking the Spaniard to repeat the feat is a reasonable risk here but the added pressure in Cincinnati would make an outright win the sensible call.
