World number 12 Cam Norrie claimed his first ATP title here this time last season and he made an impressive start to his title defence with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Chun-hsin Tseng on Wednesday. The 26-year-old is coming off the most impressive run of his career so far, with a four-set defeat to eventual champion Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon last month fully announcing him to the world stage. Norrie has won four ATP titles in the space of a truly transformative 12 months, including last season’s Indian Wells in its delayed October spot, and he usually super-consistent against players ranked below him. That spells trouble for world number 118 Radu Albot, who has so far put in a strong showing to oust Feliciano Lopez and in-form Jason Kubler. Norrie should have too many answers in this first meeting between the two, with the disruptive left-hander often bamboozling players in their first experience with him.
