World number 76 Quentin Halys is riding a three-match losing streak into the US Open to face fellow Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech for a first time. World number 58 Rinderknech is well versed in playing on US soil as a former college player in Texas but he too comes in on a three-match losing streak at tour-level, although he reached the final of the Vancouver Challenger last week before defeat to Constant Lestienne. The 27-year-old reached the Adelaide 2 final earlier this season before a desperately tight defeat to Thanasi Kokkinakis and that looks to have shot his confidence this season. A five-set tussle with Denis Shapovalov at Wimbledon last month could have gone either way but with Halys also seeing sets go both ways in his more recent Grand Slam matches the sensible option looks to be backing Rinderknech to win outright. Taking Halys to snatch at least a set could prove a valuable one-off.
