THE PREDICTION
Former world number three Sloane Stephens found some of her best form at Roland-Garros last month with a run to the quarter-finals eventually ended by Coco Gauff. The 29-year-old won the seventh WTA title of her career at the Guadalajara Open back in February but she has struggled almost everywhere else this season. Stephens won the 2017 US Open and she has reached at least the quarter-finals at all four majors, doing so at Wimbledon way back in 2013, but this looks a potential early upset against impressive Chinese prospect Qinwen Zheng. The world number 53 beat Stephens in three sets at the Charleston Open back in April and she recently stunned Simona Halep at Roland-Garros before coming closer than anyone else to beating the eventual champion Iga Swiatek in the round of 16.
The 19-year-old has lost both of her matches on grass this month but taking her to win at least a set here looks a shrewd move. It is always wise to leave Stephens’ matches out of accumulators.
