World number 28 Ekaterina Alexandrova won the second WTA title of her career at ‘s-Hertogenbosch back in June, with her first coming at the Shenzhen Open in 2020. The 27-year-old has enjoyed some solid form over the last two seasons but she will be desperate to reach the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time here after making the third round on four previous occasions, two each at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros.

20-year-old Peyton Stearns will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 332nd after receiving a wildcard to the main draw of the US Open for her Grand Slam debut. The American has been enjoying some strong results on the ITF circuit this season and she will be backed to the hilt by a home crowd as a severe underdog here. Ekaterina Alexandrova can often struggle against the players ranked above her but she should have more than enough to come through this in straight sets.
