THE PREDICTION
Former world number one Victoria Azarenka overcame Marta Kostyuk in straight sets on Thursday in an altogether more assured performance than her opener against Ashlyn Krueger. The 33-year-old was a runner-up to Naomi Osaka here as recently as 2020 but she has struggled for much of this season to find her notorious intensity, and sometimes even motivation. This looks a proper battle on Saturday with world number 54 Petra Martic bang in-form and coming off one of her best results in terns of rankings with a three-set victory over Paula Badosa. The Croat reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon before defeat to eventual champion Elena Rybakina and she took that form into the Lausanne Open, winning a second WTA title on her favoured clay. Martic and Azarenka have not met since the quarter-finals of the Linz Open a decade ago, where the Belarussian was victorious in her pomp, but Martic may be able to sneak the mini upset here against the conflicted two-time Grand Slam champion. Back the Croat to win at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
