World number five Anett Kontaveit reached the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open last month before losing in three to Aryna Sabalenka and she was unfortunate to have to pull out of the Madrid Open last week. The 26-year-old was one of the most in-form players on either tour late last season with four tournaments won in the space of just a few months but she has yet to win a Masters title after recently finishing runner-up to Iga Swiatek at the Qatar Open. World number 47 Petra Martic overcame a tough opening draw against Karolina Muchova in three sets and she will be desperate to emulate her brilliant run to the semi-finals here in Rome last season. The 31-year-old could be in with a shout of the upset here given Kontaveit has not played for a few weeks but backing the Estonian to win at least a set as the likelier victor remains the suitably cautious move here.
