THE PREDICTION

World number five Ons Jabeur overcame an inspired Caty McNally in three tight sets on Wednesday, ousting the Cincinnati native via a 9-7 tiebreak decider. The 27-year-old reached won a first Masters title this season at the Madrid Open and more recently claimed her third WTA title at the Berlin open on grass before a run to a first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, where she lost to Elena Rybakina from a set up. That kind of form should see more success this season but former world number two Petra Kvitova is currently in dangerous form herself. The 32-year-old won the 29th WTA title of her illustrious career at the Eastbourne International back in June and she has started well in Cincinnati with wins over Jil Teichmann and Sorana Cirstea. Jabeur beat Kvitova for the first time this season at the Sydney Tennis Classic but the Czech leads their head-to-head 3-1 after a straight-sets result at this stage of last season’s tournament here. This could come very close indeed and backing Jabeur to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable victors seems wise.
